The History Behind Leafscreener

The leafscreener system is a concept originally conceived by Michael Sichel who, living on the ‘very leafy’ Central Coast of NSW, was continually removing leaves from his roof and gutters.
Michael soon realised that his idea of extending the roof-line over the guttering system had far-reaching benefits and continued to develop his idea to include other forms of roofing material. However, Michael met with some design problems and sought the help and advice from Andrew Dash (a local steel pre-fabricator) and Michael Middleton (a local roof plumber). Michael and Andrew together continued to develop the product, they overcame the problems and developed a system that could not only be installed on tile roofs; it could also be installed on a wide range of metal roofs, including the installation of valleys (gullies). Thus, in 1989, a new Australian product, ‘leafscreener’, was invented. The two friends continued to develop the product and were presented with ‘The Australian Design Award’ for gutter protection in 1991.

Over the years, various copies of the system have entered the market. Most of these manufacturers often state that they invented the system and, in doing so, mislead the public. In line with common belief, copies rarely equal the efficiency of the original. Leafscreener is the original system.
